Cleaning House                    John 2:12-25

DAY 1

If you are God, what will you do to the current society (i.e., whom will you bless and whom will you put into trouble?)
Most Christians may want to bless the religious groups, and curse maybe people like Jerry Springer for presenting disguisting
life styles as good and acceptable life styles that are being persecuted by the current socitey or those rock music groups that
keep talking about worshipping Satan and promoting violence/hate or Austin Power producers for glorifying unhonorable and
unpure sex. Now, if we ask the question to our God on what He will do to our society. The answer may surprise you.
Let us look at John 2:12-22. John recorded the time when Jesus was very angry with the defilement in the house of the Lord,
that He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. He did this very early in his ministry. In fact, this was
one of the first things that He did in His ministry. Jesus cleaned up the house of the Lord. Yes, the religious groups are the group that
are in trouble. Our God will start changing the society by cleaning up His temples (i.e., the religious groups) from all corrupt actions
and unholy actions. Then, He will use this group to reach out to the lost world.

DAY 2
If America, this world and our current society is going to be changed then it has to start with the religious groups.  Look at the event
that awaken America a couple of months ago, that is the shooting at the Columbine High School.  Many people, including the
president of the United States is trying to offer a reason why such a violent tragedy can happen and how can we prevent it from
happening again. Some of the theories that are offered are the influence of movies to the young groups.  There are too many violents
in the movies.   Another reason that is offered is the influence of musics.  Musics these days contains too many things about suicide,
rebellion, no need for any rules, etc.  Then, there are reasons about the stuff on the internet.  Then, the gun laws are also
considered to be the reason for the teenager violent acts.

Sure, all of those things do CONTRIBUTE to the violence that we are seeing, yet none of those are the REAL ROOT problem.
Those are  just things that are enhancing the REAL ROOT problem.  What is the  real root problem?  The real root problem is
that our current society is a society of SPIRITUAL EMPTINESS.  There is no sense of purpose in life, people are looking for
their identity, nothing seems to fulfill them, and surely no rules shall be honored because except for your own.

Now, how can our society be in such a spiritual emptiness.  This  problem started in 1960 when God is taken out of every
possible organization, such as school.  Then, this is followed by the  church and religious groups that are loosing its role as
"salt and light" of the world.  Therefore, to change the society, God will start with fixing the local churches, and His temples.

DAY 3
Do you know where God lives?  Does He live in the great cathedrals or  in worship places such as the church buildings?  By all means no! Our God does not live in great cathedrals or church buildings, He lives in His temple.  So, what is His temple?  We are His temples. "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you.  ...  God's temple is sacret, and you are  that temple." (I Cor 3:16-17).

Now, since God lives in us, His temple, then if anything defiles  His temple, God will definitely clean it up.  God will start  "overturning the tables" in our heart, His temple.  He starts  changing the world and the society by cleaning up His temple, His dwelling place.

How do we know when God is cleaning up our hearts?  We will know  this when God gets our attention by "overturning the tables."   Maybe we defile His temple by not honoring our relationship with  our spouse.  Maybe we let harsh words, pride, ego comes in between us and our spouses.  Maybe we defile His temple by not guiding our children in the way that they should go.  Maybe because of this our children is confused in the midst of the peer pressure and the pressure of the sinful world.  Maybe we defile His temple by not giving a good testimony at our work place.  God will clean up the mess in His temple.  God will start with His temple, then His temple can reach the world around them.  Therefore, start praying right now, so that we will be obedient to the cleaning up process that He is conducting.  This is the only way for us to be "salt and light" to  the world.

DAY 4
John 2:23-24, "...many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all man. ... for he knew what was in a man." What a strange verse! It says that people believed in his name, yet Jesus would not entrust himself to them. This is just like saying that people believed in Jesus, yet Jesus did not believe in them. Yes, it is true. Many people may claim that they believe Jesus, and they may think in their head that they believe in Jesus, but Jesus knew all man and He knew what was in a man. Jesus see what is in man's heart, and He knew that some people just simply claim that they believed in Christ, yet, their hearts do not reflect that. So, what does it mean to "really" believe? We shall see this tomorrow. For today, it is enough for us to take the time to pray and see whether we really believe Jesus in our HEART. Otherwise, we are just simply deceiving ourselves and deceiving others by claiming that we believed in Christ.

DAY 5
We may say, "I have tried Christianity and it does not work for me. It may work for you and I am happy for you, but definitely Christianity is not for me." Yes, that statement is true. If you have tried Christianity as a religion, it does not work. Religion can not change a man's heart. Man's heart is so wicked and desperately bad, only Jesus can change a man's heart. If we practice Christianity as a religion, that we have not met Jesus himself. Christianity is not about religion, but it is about a relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord. To be a Christian means to come to Jesus and let Him have the key to our lives: a. admit that we can not change our lives by ourselves b. believe in the Lord Jesus Christ; believe that He can change your wicked heart c. confess Him as Lord and Savior by word and by action d. follow Christ in the power of the Holy spirit. Yes, this is what it means to be a Christian. Are you a Christian? If not, then maybe this is the time for you to pray and ask Jesus to come to your heart and clean up your heart. A changed life starts with a clean heart. Jesus can clean up your heart, and Jesus can clean up the mess that you have created in your life.
